Parents' comments on poetry workshops with Richard Burns

Baybrook County Primary School, Peterborough

An excellent and worthwhile session. Richard Burns was able to occupy intently a very large group. I really enjoyed it and so did all of the children. It gave some of them the confidence to read out the poetry that they had written to the rest of us. It was just a shame that the session couldn’t last all day. Congratulations to all concerned, especially whoever organised and booked him.

From a parent’s point of view, I found the poetry afternoon totally enjoyable and very educational, but in a ‘fun’ way. The children thoroughly enjoyed  themselves, and were full of enthusiasm towards poetry by the end of the afternoon. Most of the children were also inspired by Mr. Burns’ teaching, and have continued to write poems since. Both as a parent and as a school helper I feel adults and children benefited, and I would be delighted to see more of these ‘arts events’ for our children.

The children were very inspired and full of it, even those who find concentration a problem. Every child felt good about their poem. It would be lovely to follow this up with further sessions.
